Imagine if the Jets could have turned one of four FG's into seven points that would have pulled the upset. The coulda woulda shoulda in "Shield" doesn't work and the Pats fend off the Jets late rally beating Gang Green 27-25.
Behind a bend but don't break "D" and QB Tom Brady throwing for 261 yards on 20 for 37 with three TD's the Pats did what they had to do to win the ball game. They couldn't run the Wilson pigskin on that Gang Green front but RB Shane Vereen had two scores grabbing five pigs for 71 yards and running for 43 yards on eleven carries. TE Rob Gronkowski also hauled in five pigs for 68 yards and they made the necessary plays on both sides to win the game when "Clutch" had to be "Clutch".
The Jets might have found a nice balance in play-calling for QB Geno Smith the rest of the way as they ran and threw it with just that. Smith threw for 226 yards on 20 for 34 and a score. Both running backs Chris Ivory and CJ2K combined for 168 yards on 34 carries and a score. It was just too many FG's and not enough TD's and that has been the Jets Achilles heel all season long. Gang Green just can't hit the switch when the switch needs to be hit. Nick Folk gets his potential game-winning FG blocked as the clock strikes zeroes.
The Pats head to the Bye Week at 5-2 while the Jets fall to 1-6...
