The visiting Nashville Predators under new lead man Peter Laviolette has had a ton of success everywhere he has gone coaching in the NHL. His last stop was with Philadelphia Flyers (replacing John Stevens a month or so into the season) and he was manning that bench when the Indian Head won the 2010 "Fight for Lord Stanley".
Now he has brought his patented style to the Music City and they almost beat the Hawks playing tight on the boards with hellish "D" and taking offensive chances which is an upgrade talking style from former Preds lead man Peter Trotz.
The Hawks opened up the scoring just over two minutes in with defensemen Johnny Oduya "Lighting the Lamp" for a 1-0 Hawks lead. Preds stud defensemen Shea Weber came right back just over the midway point in the 1st frame tying the score up at 1-1.
That score would hold up as the Hawks had a Marian Hossa and Patrick Sharp tries late in the 3rd under a minute as all was for not. They went into the five minute extra frame and with a minute and a half left with the Preds on a power play 3-4 Hawks "Captain Serious" Jonathan Toews stole the puck with horrible play from the Preds at their blue line. Toews skated in on the breakaway going five hole and the puck came back to him as he was skating by and he tipped it in for the game-winner.
That goal labeled as a GWSHG (Game-Winning Short-Handed Goal) for the Captain as the Hawks pick up two points. Preds net minder Carter Hutton stopped 35 of 37 SOG. Hawks net minder "Craw-Dad" Crawford stopped 19 of 20 SOG.
The Hawks now will get the Phly Guys from Philly on Tuesday October 21, 2014 at the Madhouse as they will play five of their next eight out of the motel.
