Teams know when they are going up against an Ace of a Staff they must get ahead of that Ace and get to him early or it could be a long day. The Yankees went right at the A's Sonny Gray on Friday Night and score three runs on him in the first two innings. That set the tone for the Yanks to take the first game of a three-piece in the Black Hole "Swingin' Athletics Set-Up".

Three straight singles by Brett Gardner, the Captain #2,. and Jacoby Ellsbury scored Gardner to make it 1-0 Yanks in the 1st. Then Mark Texieria Sac-Fly scored the Captain to make it 2-0 after one. The Yanks then scored again in the 2nd as Gardner singled again to score Brian Roberts to make it 3-0. That was good enough for Yanks Starter David Phelps who went 6 2/3 innings of Shutout Hardball giving up just two hits and walking three while striking out four as he gets the "W".

Gray on the other hand goes six allowing seven hits and three runs as he struck out seven and walked one. Jed Lowrie and Derek Norris had the only two hits for the A's in the game as the Yanks scored four more in the 8th to put the game away 7-0. New York Junior Circuit moves to 35-31 while the A's fall to 40-27...
