The Chicago Cubs trying to make some hay in the NL Central ran up against a buzz saw in Gio Gonzalez of the Washington Nationals on Saturday. "Gonzo" was lights out on the North Siders allowing just two hits through seven striking out seven and giving just two free passes.

The Nats offensively finally got to Cubbies Starter Dallas Beeler (who was on his A-Game as well) in the 6th scoring a run to make it 1-0 Nats. Beeler went six giving up just four hits and a run as he walked three and stuck out six. It was Nats Second Baseman Anthony Rendon who did the damage at the dish going 3 for 4 scoring two runs and an RBI. A Rendon Triple and an Adam LaRoche Sac-Fly in the 8th broke the game open giving the Nats a 3-0 lead. Nats Captain Save-A-Game Rafael Soriano records his 19th save in 21 chances.

Washington now moves to 42-38 moving up a 1/2 game on Braves Country. The North Siders at 34-45 are 14.5 games behind the NL Central leading Brew Crew!
