Detroit Tigers RHP and Ace Justin Verlander was flirting with a no-hitter last night versus the visiting Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and ended up giving a one hit for a 1-0 Tigers "W"!. Angels "Get Away Day" starter Matt Shoemaker came right back trying to throw  no-hitter of his own as he goes into the 8th allowing a hit for a 2-0 Halos shutout "W" over Detroit Hardball.

Both Halos reliever Joe Smith and Captain Save-A-Game Huston Street (Sv, 31) closed down the rest of the 8th and the 9th allowing one more hit. Los Angeles scored on a 6th inning "El Hombre" Albert Pujols RBI single and a Shane Victorino Sac-fly in the 9th for its two runs. That Pujols RBI broke open a scoreless game as Tigers starter Randy Wolf was magnificent as well going seven allowing five hits and a run striking out five.

The Halos now move into a tie with the 2nd place in the AL West Texas Rangers at 65-62. The AL West leading 'Stros Show is 5.5 games up on both at a 71-57 clip. The Motor City Kitties at 60-67 for what its worth is 5.5 games back of the AL #2 Wild Card slot.
