Cubs Nation needs something to smile about as the Cubbies steal a "W" from the New York Metropolitans at Wrigley. That as not before Mets #2 Pitching Prospect then behind UNC's Matt Harvey in Zack Wheeler threw a gem through 6 2/3 innings.
Wheeler allowed just two hits while striking out seven and walking two. Cubs Hitters were scuffling all night long as the Kid Wheelers are starting to get more and more comfortable on the Bump. A Curtis Granderson Sac-Fly in the 1st scored Matt den Dekker to make it 1-0 Mets. The game went scoreless from there as Cubs Starter Jake Arrieta went 4 2/3 innings allowing just that one run on seven hits.
The Mets went to the Pen and it was Amazins' Josh Edgin who gave a Solo Bomb to Cubs Left Fielder Chris Coghlan in the 8th to tie the game up at 1-1. Then in the bottom half of the 9th Mets Reliever Scott Rice gave up the dreaded lead-off single to Cubs Anthony Rizzo. Two outs later Cubs Nathan Schierholtz singles the game-winning run as Rizzo scores and Wrigleyville is alive at least for one summer night! Cubs Hector Rondon gets the win...
Cubs move to 21-34 while the Mets fall to 28-30...
