The New York Rangers small in stature but as fast as the Netherland's Speed Skating Olympic Team came to play in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals. They jumped out to a 2-0 lead behind goals by Beniot Pouliot and a short-handed goal by Carl Hagelin who could have scored the game-winner as we will get to that in a bit.
The Kings have seen this picture before and just three minutes inside the first frame down 2-0 the Kings Kyle Clifford "Lights the Lamp" to make the score 2-1 Rangers as we go to the first intermission. Some six minutes inside the 2nd frame the Monarchs Drew Doughty scores to tie it at 2-2 as the Staples Center was going nuts. Not until the last frame would the fireworks start as both Net Minders were locked in by then.
The Rangers Bryan Boyle took a penalty with less than two minute to go in Regulation as that sent the Monarchs to a Power Play. Both Anze Kopitar and Jeff Carter had amazing chances to score and in between that was a Carl Hagelin Breakaway that Jonathan Quick saved and saved Game 1 for the Kings.
Less than five minutes into the Extra Period it was that Man again Justin Williams getting puck from an errand pass as he beats King Henrik "Top Shelf"...Siren Please!...Monarchs win 3-2 and lead the Best of Seven 1-0.
King Henrik stopped 40-43 SOG with Quick 25-27 SOG...
