The Eastern and Western Europeans have been staking their claim in the Logo for at least thirty years now as have the Russians, Chinese, and Japanese. There is one country though that has been quietly not only putting them in the Logo but "Making Noise" when they get their call to the NBA. That Country is Turkey and the first notable Players was former Sac King Wing Hedo "What He Do" Turkoglu.
Hedo (a Small Forward or Big Guard by trade) was a Top 20 pick in the 2000 NBA Draft by the Sacramento Kings as he had been crowned the "Jordan of Turkey". The Measurable speak for themselves when talking about Hedo. AT 6'10" and a solid 220 el bees or so with deft range from the Land of Plenty, a handle that most 6-10 cats in the Logo wish they had, supreme court awareness, and a back to the basket or face up game. Hedo was all that and had his best years in the late 2K's playing with Jameer, Shard, and Dwight of Three Stripes in Mouse Town USA....for the Orlando Magic. But not to be out done was the fellow countrymen that have also had an impact from Turkey in the logo like"
C Memet Okur aka Memo...the 37th Pick of the 2001 Draft by Joe D and the Pistons as he was next in line per say to follow Hedo over from Turkey and do damage in the Logo. At 6-11 and just north of 250 el bees he had a mean Back to the Basket game and also on the screen and roll or as the Jazz would call Pick and Pop...Mehmet was knocking Money Balls down from distance. Okur's Best Years were with the Utah Jazz as he played with D-Will 8 and C-Booz 5 among others.
C Omer Asik aka the Big Turkey...the Rip City Blazes drafted Asik in 2008 and then the Bulls got the rights to him in 2010. He is a true NBA Big (7'1" and heading north to 270 el bees) in every sense of the word and now playing for the #REDnation Rockets is learning how to play Big. He is a Top Five Rebounder for the 2012-13 Season and many wonder if the Bulls made a a mistake of not matching the Rockets Offer Sheet on him in 2012. Coming from where his current contract was he was going to get a significant upgrade and the Bulls should have matched. A back to the Basket player who needs at least two full weeks at "Camp Dream" in Houston then watch out.
SF Ersan Ilyasova aka E.I. of Beer Town USA...the Bucks to their Credit drafted the young man at 18 years of age and he was back and forth until 2009 from the Bucks to the Euro Leagues and Spanish Leagues. He is supremely talented a at 6'10" and 235 el bees at the Small Forward as he is labeled under that new term"Stretch 4". He maybe should be at the Power Forward but his Skill Set moves him to the Small Forward or as the Bluedude calls it "the Big Forward". He is the closest thing to Hedo minus Hedo's Handle. Money Baller Maker, Back to the basket, face up, off the bounce, and a nice mid game for a Stretch 4. He is a "problem" every night for Bucks Opponents.
PF/C Enes Kanter aka E.K. of Turkey...at 6'11 and right under 1250 el bees he is the highest rated Product out of Turkey ever and was the #3 pick of 2011 NBA Draft. He made his name at the 2010 World Festival where he torched the US best High School Players or essentially the McDonald's All-American Team. He was then slated to go to UK and play for Coach Cal and the Wildcats but the NCAA later ruled he was no longer an Ametuer. He plays well around the Rim and for the Jazz with Derrick Favors Kanter is part of that equation as well. Look for Enes who plays the Power Forward to start to get more and more minutes as he is a Glass-Eater in every since of the word. Jazz will be actively moving both Milsap and Big Al Jefferson before the 2013 NBA Draft...keep watching. They must get Favors and Kanter on the Floor with major minutes to see what they can do.
Next time you see one of these players flying through your Highlights rem, ember the Bluedude told you so....
