The Wichita State Shockers wasted no time introducing themselves to March Madness and the Pitt Panthers. Behind a methodical Offensive Plane and sound Defense the Missouri Valley Conference Power dismantled the Pitt Panthers in every sense of the word. The Shockers cruised to a 73-55 win and that ugly Offense Pitt panthers team showed up Today and messed up a few brackets. Three Players from Wichita State (Cleanthony Early, Malcolm Armstead, and Carl Hall) combined for 54 points as they missed outscoring the Panthers by one point. Thew Shockers are balanced and battled tested and will be a tough out in Round 2.

The Zags finally outlast and run away from the Jags as in Gonzaga over Southern University Jaguars 64-58. It was the Athletes of Southern that gave the Zags fits and the Gonzaga never really adjusted they just started worrying about what they do well and not what the Jags wee trying to do to them. Zags Big Fella Kelly Olynyk got going and the Jags could do nothing to stop him. Olynyk scored 21 points and grabbed ten boards as the Jags just didn't have anyone in the Paint that could stop him. It wasn't so much a scare for the Zags as it was a wake up-call for Round 2.

The First Time in tourney History where Two 12 Seeds from the same conference win both games on the same day. The 12 Seed Cal Bears and Oregon Ducks from the Pac-12 win and beat Five Seeds in doing so.

The Ducks took out the Oklahoma State Cowboys who looked dazed and Confused among other adjectives to describe their play. Ducks just outplayed the Cowboys and out hustled them to every loose ball.

The Bears of Cal Berkley just kept the UNLV Runnin' Rebels at bay the whole night and just made play after play as Vegas had plenty of chances to get back into the game but didn't. Not making excuses for both the Rebs and Cowboys but why were they 12 seeds coming from a Super Conference?

Day One of March Madness had no Cinderella but did show the Parity throughout the NCAA.
