The Pittsburgh Pirates after splitting the first two games with the St. Louis Cardinals all they could do was concentrate on winning the "Rubber Game" on ESPN Sunday Night Hardball and they did just that.

Behind a seven frame two-hitter allowing no runs Pirates Ace RHP Gerrit Cole moves his 2k15 W-L 16-8. Cole appears to be back on track as he has struggled since around the All-Star Break through the back end of July and most of August.

The Buccos didn't get to Cards starter John Lackey until the 4th frame as Neil Walker's RBI single opened up the scoring at 1-0 Buccos. That score would remain until the 7th as Cole would help his own cause with an RBI single making it 2-0 Buccos.

Lackey would start the 8th only to get greeted by an A-Ram Solo HR making it 3-0 Buccos. That was it for Lackey as he goes7 and some change talking the loss allowing three runs falling to 11-9. Steve Cishek would step in for Lackey and Sean Rodriguez would take him for a two-run blast making it 5-0 Buccos. Starlin Marte for good measure would go two-run shot as well in the 9th as the Cards would score one in the bottom half of the 9th for a 7-1 Pirates win.

#BUCN moves to 81-54 as the redbirds fall to 87-49 still with a 5.5 game lead on the Buccos in the NL Central...The Cardinals and Buccos looking ahead will get a heavy dose of the NL Central in September..
