The Chicago Cubs almost had it as it looked like a sweep, felt like a sweep, and in a N.Y. Minute was not a sweep as the Redbirds prevailed in the 8th by the score of 4-3. Cubbies starter Jon Lester went seven strong allowing a run and the only frame he had trouble in was ironically the first as he settles down after that to put the North Siders in position to get the sweep.

The Redbirds at least in the 8th was more than happy to see Lester gone as Pedro Strop who had issues yesterday giving up a few runs late before putting out the fire was back on the "Hill" to the Redbirds delight.

With one out in the bottom half of the 8th after Brandon Moss flies out it was Strop walking the "Free Swinging" Mark Reynolds. With Reynolds on and Greg Garcia pinch-hitting for Redbirds reliever Jonathan Broxton he singled. Now with ducks on the pond at 1st and 2nd it and the Cubbies going with LHP Clayton Richard replacing Strop Matt Carpenter singles up the middle and now its 3-2 Cubs with runners at 1st and 2nd as Peter Kozma scores as he pinch-ran for Reynolds.

Cubbies Skipper Joe Maddon then went to newly-acquired Fernando Rodney and just like that Redbirds Rookie Stephen Piscotty doubled to center scoring both "Carp" and Peter Bourjos who was running for Garcia...4-3 Redbirds. The North Siders folded in the top of the 9th as Redbirds Captain Save-A-Game Trevor Rosenthal gets his 43rd save...

"Maddon Ball" instead of gaining three games only gains one falling to 80-58 while the Redbirds moves to 88-51 avoiding their 6th loss in their last seven games as they pick up that Clubhouse...

Lester goes No-Decision going seven allowing two hits and a run as he struck out seven and walked one...
