The St. Louis Cardinals are happy two things are in order as they are within striking distance of the NL Central leading Pirates and they have All-Planet Earth Back Stop back in Yadier Molina. Both were in effect in Wrigleyville earlier this afternoon in the Cards 4-0 shout out victory.

The Redbirds get Starter Joe Kelly early insurance as they put one run up in the 4th and the 5th when Yadier goes 2-run shot into the Bleacher Bums of the "Friendly Confines to cap the scoring at 4-0 Redbirds. Kelly went six innings allowing no runs on four hits while walking three and striking out six. Cubbies Starter Travis Wood who appears to be pitching every other day goes 5 1/3 innings and gives up four runs on four hits while walking one and striking out three. The Bomb from Molina chased him in the 6th frame.

The Redbirds as we go to press are still two back of the Buccos and a 1 1/2 ahead of the Red Legs. That is also the lead in the NL Wild Card as the Redbirds are 31 and the Red Legs #2. Cubbies have to start turning the corner in 2014 or someone going to start asking for North Siders Prez of Baseball Ops the "Mad Hardball Scientist" Theo Epstein's head...Lol!
