UNC was up 41-27 and looking to put the Irish away but in the end Notre Dame had other ideas as and made the Heels sweat it out until the Clock struck zeroes. UNC came in #14 in the Country in the AP Poll and looking to get a #3 seed if they stay the course in March Madness. The Irish having an off year on the Hardwood looking to finish strong and maybe catch a burst in the ACC Tourney.
Behind the Tar Heels Attack led by Junior Forward James Michael McAdoo (14 pts 9 rebs) and Sophomore J.P. Tokoto (11 pts 6 rebs 3 asst) the 'Heels sneak by the Irish 63-61 in ACC Play. The Irish made it very uncomfortable for UNC as they started the 2nd half on a 14-3 run to tie the game at 44-44 at the first T.V. Timeout in the 2nd half. The Game then came down to execution and getting "Stops" on Defense and fortunately for the Heels the Irish couldn't make a basket late.
Notre Dame was led by Lead Guard Eric Atkins 21 points and six helpers as he dominated his match up with UNC PG and surefire ACC 1st Teamer Marcus Paige. Irish Shooting Guard Pat Connaughton chipped in with 17 points while grabbing thirteen Oranges. Those two along with a 3rd Irish Guard Steve Vasturia (11 pts) scored 49 of Notre Dame's 61 and that is getting max-production from your back court.
Tar Heels dodge an "L" as they move to 13-4 in the ACC and 23-7 overall. The Irish needs a huge run in the ACC Tourney falling to 6-12 in the ACC and 15-16 overall.
