The best Free Safety arguably in the last twenty years and maybe ever as Ed Reed from Nawlin's and the "U" Coral Gables hangs it up as a Baltimore Raven. You will see no better Safety in football playing that deep 1/3 and have the ability to dissect plays better than Ed Reed. Fittingly enough Steelers Safety Troy Polamalu has also retired and those two are the best free safety by far (Troy Polamalu best Strong Saftey) in this era. Imagine both getting inducted into Canton in the same year...wow!

Reed was dominant at the "U" for the 'Canes and still fell all the way to pick #24 overall in the 2002 NFL Draft in round #1.  Some questioned his lack of speed but his instincts and ball-hawking ability was off the charts. I can honestly say the Ravens were built on three foundations in NFL HOF OT Jonathan Ogden, MLB Ray Lewis, and FS Ed Reed period. Those three when you mention Baltimore Ravens are etched in the NFL Memory talking Ravens Football...they have to be.

In Reed's 61 INT's as a Raven he gained 1,541 yds on those INT's and scored seven TD's as his Kick Returning Value was highly-underrated early in his career coming out of the "U"...

Reed was before the late great Sean Taylor at Safety at Miami Fla. for the Hurricanes as they were both 1st Team All-Americans

I will always remember #20 in Purple and #43 in Black and Yellow as they were dominant...
