The New York Yankees are still right in the thick of both the AL Division Race and AL Wild Card Race to date. They are going to find out exactly where they are by Thursday as they get Four with the Tigers at the Bronx Zoo. Well Game 1 is in the books and down goes Mad Max!

The Bombers strike in the 3rd on a Jacoby Ellsbury Sac-Fly and a "Bob the Builder" McCann RBI-single and wouldn't you know those two runs hold up to be the difference. Tigers Starter Max Scherzer gets only his 4th loss vs thirteen W's as he goes seven strong allowing two runs on nine hits as he walked four.

Yankees Starter Brandon McCarthy , who since coming over has been "Solid as a Rock", goes 5 2/3 innings giving up a run on five hits as he struck out eight. It was Tigers Second Baseman Ian Kinsler who singled home Andrew Romine in the 5th for the Tigers only run.

The Yanks Pen held up late as David Robertson, getting his Inner-Sandman on, strikes in the 9th picking up his 30th Save vs 2 blown saves. Yanks move to 58-53 five back of the AL East leading O's. The Motor City Kitties drop to 61-48 and lead the Central by 4.5 games over the Royals.
