The Chicago Cubs needed this one right before the break one to avoid the sweep and two to stay somewhat close in the NL Central to the Redbirds and Buccos. The Pale Hose surging since June 20 with a 13-6 W-L was trying to sweep the North Siders and head into break with Uncle Mo residing on 31st Street right off the Dan Ryan Expressway!

Enter Cubbies starter Jake Arrieta and the Cub wearing Mr. Cub's #14 paying Homage to the late greta Ernie Banks. Arrieta was everything but a J.A. as he goes complete job allowing just two hits and striking out nine. That first frame for the Cubs was monumental in this one as they score two on a Kris Bryant three-bagger and a Jorge Soler RBI single. Then Arrieta uses his own insurance in the 5th taking Sox starter Carlos Quintana deep to left field for a solo Hr.

The Pale Hose only run came in the 6th on an Adam Eaton sac-bunt scoring Carlos Sanchez making it the final 3-1.  The North Siders at 47-40 are in a nice spot to possible catch bot the Redbirds and Buccos in the 2nd half. The Chi-Sox at 41-45 has the pitching to make a run and they have played well versus the AL Central in the 1st half with a heavy dose of their division foes in the 2nd half!
