They both dominated Major College Football in the Mid to Late 80s. Consensus All-Americans at Big Red Lincoln and Crimson Tide Tuscaloosa. The made Life for QBs in the AFC West and on Sunday in general miserable. As dominant as they wee the Chiefs never really made a serious run to the Big One.

Meet and Greet Former Big 8 All-American DE at Nebraska Lincoln Neil Smith and SEC All-American at Alabama the late Derrick Thomas.

Domination (from Free dictionary.com)..Control or Power of another or others.

Mr. Smith Arrowhead Edition and D.T. both laid the Foundation for those Great Defensive-Minded Chief Teams in the Early 90 as they were both picked in the Top 5 of the 1988 and '89 Sunday Drafts. Marty Schottenheimer coached both these Gentlemen and the Whole Defense and Chiefs Team was built around these Two Throwback "Monsters Inside QBs" Types.

Neil was an Athletic-Freak for his Size in the Mold of a Quicker or even more elusive Bears HOF Inductee DE Richard Dent. Sam kind of Build Long legs and Arms and built with No Torso like a Daddy long-Leg Spider. He lined up on the Left Side and was equally adept at stopping the Run as getting to the Signal-Caller. An unstoppable force for Tom Osborne and "Big Red" the Nebraska Cornhuskers in the Big 8 from 1984-1988.

D.T. was Giants H.O.F. Lawrence Taylor but faster. On Game Plan day which is Wednesday for a Sunday Game their were Three Sets of Plans. One for the Chiefs Offense, another for the Chiefs Defense, and the 3rd Plan was No where D.T. was at all times or the Play will never run as drawn up. The Arrowhead Faithful called him simply.."Dangerous D.T." like a Stick of Dynamite he was. D.T. played alongside another College Monster at 'Bama the Late 80s and Early 90s Bills OLB "Biscuit" Corneluis Bennett.

Together Both Smith and Thomas wreaked havoc for almost a Decade before Smith went to Division Rival the Denver Broncos and was part of those Back 2 Back 2 Broncos Championships led by John Elway and Terrell Davis and of course the "Mile High Salute".

Red Jersey Collections (Sacks) for both Smith and Thomas:

Neil Smith (1988-2000) 104.5 (21st)

Derrick Thomas (1989-1999) 126.5 (12th)

Thomas out of 11 Seasons had 7 Seasons of Double-Digit Sack Totals with a Chiefs Record and then NFL Record 20 Sacks in 1990 only his 2nd Year in the NFL.

Smith had his beat run on QB Kills from 1992-95 when he went for 53 Sacks in 4 Seasons with 1993  being his High for his Career at 15 Sacks.

Two the Greatest Chiefs ever in the Great DE Neil Smith and the Late Great Derrick "D.T." Thomas.
