The COLTS were sorry to see him go but Head Coach TOny DUNGY had more to do in his life and it was time to move on. But before Tony had left the NFL he has left an imprint on African-American NFL Coached that will last forever.

A non-drafted player coming out of the University of Minnesota, DUNGY was a defensive Back that then Pittsburgh STEELERS Head Coach and NFL Great Chuck NOLL saw enough promise in DUNGY to put him on the squad.

From then Dungy became an assistant for the STEELERS and that's when the light came on as he used that platform later to try to get not only Good coaching candidates but minority ones.

DUNGY started as a Defensive Backs Coach with the STEELERS that later lead to becoming the Defensive Coordinator. He then left the STEELERS to become Defensive Backs coach for the KC Chiefs. AFTER a short stint in KC Dungy then was hired by VIKINGS HEad Coach DENNIS GREEN to run the VIKINGS DEFENSE which ranked #1 under Dungy's Watch.

Then in 1996 Tony got a call from BUCCANEERS Rich McKAY to become the HEAD COACH, and this is where it all started......The Tony DUNGY Coaching Tree..........He rebuilt the BUCS to become a formidable Power in the NFC with the likes of John LYNCH, Warren SAPP, Derrick BROOKS, Ronde BARBER, etc..

The DUNGY COACHING Tree started with the BUCS with these COACHES:

As of JANUARY 3, 2011 these are the Minority Head Coaches off of the DUNGY Tree

Lovie SMITH Chicago Bears (BUCS STAFF)
Mike TOMLIN Pittsburgh Steelers (BUCS STAFF)
Jim CALDWELL Indianapolis Colts (COLTS STAFF)
Leslie FRAZIER Minnesota Vikings (COLTS STAFF)

Not to mention these guys off of the BUCCANEERS Staff

Rod MArinelli Currently Bears Defensive COORDINATOR (BUCS STAFF)
Mike Shula head coach at ALABAMA from 2003-2006 (BUCS STAFF)
Herm Edwards ex- JETS & CHIEFS Head man now ESPN Football analysts (BUCS STAFF)
Monte Kiffin USC Defensive Coordinator (BUCS STAFF)

DUNGY came off the Chuck Noll (STEELERS) from Sid Gilman, Dennis Green (VIKINGS), and Marty Schottenhimer (CHIEFS) Coaching tree
