The Lions knew they had something when they drafted in 1988 Heisman Trophy Winner RB Barry Sanders of the Oklahoma State Cowboys. From Day 1 the Lions knew if they could build a Team around him especially something to take the immediate pressure off Sanders would lead them to the Lombardi.

The Lions wanted to go to some kind of Passing Attack that allowed the Lions to be balanced and get down the Field as Teams were crowding the Box daring the Lion to throw the Pigskin.

Enter Wayne Fontes and some of the Best Years Lion Tackle Football had ever seen. In 1991 Three Season after Barry Arrived the Lions nab WR Herman Moore, a Poor Man's MEGAtron, and a Monster he was as Sunday didn't have a Target as Tall and Agile as the Wahoos (University of Virginia) Star. He was Keyshawn Johnson, Terrell Owens, and Harold Carmichael in One...well kind of.

Then the Lions also go get Saints 1988 2nd Round Pick and former WR from the Original "U" Brett Perriman. Perriman was the Perfect piece to offset Barry's Running and Herman as the #1 WR. Brett was a Prototype #2 back then could run excellent routes as well as take the Cover off the D.

The Lions in my estimation and most Lions fans would agree that the 1991 Lions Bunch that lost in the NFC Championship Game was the Best Lions Team in History. A solid "D", Barry Sanders in his Prime, and Two Excellent Wideouts ion Moore and Perriman.

Not to be out done the lion add a 3rd Piece to the Puzzle in 1994 with Men of Troy All-American WR Johnnie Morton. Morton was a fast Fluid Type of R that could blow by the D, run routes, Graceful, good Hands, and He and Perriman together killed Defenses in YAC (Yards After the Catch).

I ask the Question with all this talent why couldn't Barry, Herman, Johnnie, and Brett along with the other 49 Lions Players get to the Promised Land. Inconsistency with the QB and Defense as well as Philosophy.

The Lions Teams in the 90s will go down as the Time when Barry Sanders Dominated but a True Lions Fans will tell you we were loaded with not Only Barry Sanders...but Herman, Johnnie, and Brett.

The Trio wasn't that Good Huh!...Look at these Lions Career Numbers:

B Perriman 1991-96...428 Grabs for 5,244 Yards (#3 on Lions All-Time List)

J. Morton 1994-2001...469 Grabs for 6,499 Yards  (#2 on Lions All-Time List)

H. Moore 1991-2001...670 Grabs for 9,174 Yards (#1 on Lions All-Time List)

Moore also had 62 TDS (#1), Morton 35 TDS (#2)

Note: Current LIONS WR MEGATron Calvin Johnson has 49 TDs and still going....
