It was on the verge of becoming a Powerhouse Prep School in Durham, North Carolina. It had a Run in the late 90s to early 2Ks that could rival the likes of Oak Hill Academy Virginia. But what ever happened to a School that was on Top of the State of North Carolina and National Rankings and it just disappeared.

The Mount Zion Academy Mighty Warriors, a College Preparatory School, was recruiting some of the best Talent in the Nation along the East Coast, down into Florida, and even as far as Chicago and the State of Michigan. There most famous for landing Two Lottery Picks that called Mt. Zion Academy Home and One player put himself on the National Radar attending Mt. Zion.

Tracy McGrady, who was from Auburndale High School in Auburndale, Florida blew up on the National Scene at Mt. Zion Academy a he put himself and the School on the National Radar. A 1997 Lottery Pick of the Toronto Raptors..T-Mac as they call him, was the Player that the Warriors used his Likeness to recruit some of these Players that attended the Former College Prep High School:

Rodney White SF: Drafted by the Detroit Pistons in 2001 after attending the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

Marquis Daniels SG/SF: the Orlando, Florida Native attended the University of Auburn and recruited there by current Chicago State Coach Tracy Dildy for then Auburn Head Coach Cliff Ellis. Drafted by the Mavs in the 2nd Round of the 2003 NBA Draft. Currently plays for Doc Rivers and the Celtics.

Corey Hightower SG: Flint, Michigan Legend attended Mt. Zion Academy then went onto JUCO National Powerhouse Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa, Iowa. A 2001 2nd Round Pick of the San Antonio Spurs.

Amare Stoudamire: Current Knicks Star Mt. Zion was his 3rd Stop before finally landing at Orlando Florida's Cypress Creek High School. Stat along with McGrady were the Two Best Players to ever attend Mt. Zion Academy.

Jarrett Jack PG: Current GS Warriors PG attended Mt. Zion as it was his 2nd Stop among 4 Schools as he went to Worcester Academy before then Ramblin' Wreck Lead Man Paul Hewitt recruited him to go the GA Tech.

Jonathan Hargett PG: The PG that could have been but never was an NBA Players still talk about Hargett. He never played at Mt. Zion but was arguably right there with T-Mac and Stat as far as Talent. As we go to Press Hargett's Well-Documented Story from the Rise n Fall of a Star to be. He gets out of Prison in January 2013 after serving a 10-Year Sentence.

Steven Hunter C: Played at Fame Maywood, Illinois' Proviso East HS before attending Mt, Zion his Junior Year then coming back to Proviso for his Senior Year. A DePaul Univeristy Chicago Signee and a 1st Round Pick by the Orlando Magic in 2001.

Just some of the Talented Players that attended Mt Zion in its brief Hay Day and one wonders if they will ever get back on that National Scene again.
