Sometimes the BEST PLAYER on the Floor......Sometimes his own Teams Worst Enemy......an ENIGMA with so much Talent and Charisma will go down as one of the most Under Achieving Big MEN of all time considering what he was working with. From the means streets of South PHILLY.......it's Rasheed ABDUL WALLACE aka SHEED is what the streets of PHILLY calls him.

Standing at 7' and around 240 EL BEES when he was in his prime.....SHEED was a dominant force whenever he stepped on the court and played with the ME AGAINST THE WORLD Mentality. A Star at Philadelphia's Secondary Education School.....SIMON GRATZ.....he was a SHOW all to himself as his team was the best in PHILLY and the State of Pennsylvania when he played on it. Look at SHEED'S Scholastic Accolades:

1993 USA Today National High School Basketball Player of the YEAR
SIMON GRATZ 1993 National CHAMPS
2x 1st team PARADE Magazine All-American
An Honor STUDENT all 4 Years at SIMON GRATZ
1993 McDONALD'S All-American
All-City PHILLY 4 years joining one WILT CHAMBERLAIN

SHEED only averaged around 16 and 15 and 7 Blocks because he only played a little over a half each game because they were blowing every team thy played out. SHEED also had the luxury of playing with 7 Future Division 1 players highlighted by PG Terrell STOKES (MARYLAND), Center Lynard STEWART (TEMPLE), and Power Forward Tyrone WEEKS (UMASS).

After being named on everyones All AMerican List SHEED chose the University of North Carolina CHAPEL HILl and there he joined the # 2 Overall Player in the COUNTRY....from KINSTON NC and OAK HILL ACADEMY in VA...Jerry STACKHOUSE. Also joining those 2 gentleman was STACK'S Teammate and native of CHARLOTTE NC.....PG Jeff McGINNIS.

They were both unstoppable players but were slowed down and rightfully so by the TEACHER and Coaching Legend DEAN SMITH. Under the tutelage of SMITH.....SHEED became a more complete player adding to an already pretty good Back to the basket game. Coach SMITH had SHEEED develop his face-up game and his range. SHEED before he left FRANKLIN STREET moved his range out to the COLLEGE LINE of 19'9".

SHEED was 2 and out at CHAPEL HILL and a TOP 5 pick. The one guy that challenged SHEED at every turn was the WAKE FOREST Demon DEACONS and their Center from the US Virgin ISLANDS......The BIG FUNDAMENTAL....Tim DINCAN. SHEED and DUNC had some major ACC Battles that were must see TV.

After being drafted SHEED was playing behind Chris WEBBER and Juwan HOWARD of then the Washington BULLETS. And for my money I could never understand why they drafted him because even though SHEED is a 7'....he is a natural POWER FORWARD much like KG and DUNC.

The BULLETS packaged SHEED off only after a year to the Portland TRAILBLAZERS. This is where SHEED made his presence felt. playing along side NBA Starts like Scottie PIPPEN (HOF 2010), Arvydas SABONIS (HOF 2011), Steve SMITH ( NBA ANALYST for NBA TV and one of the all time Michigan STATE SPARTAN Greats), Greg ANTHONY (UNLV), JIm JACKSON (OHIO STATE), Isiah RIDER (UNLV), Walt the WIZARD WILLIAMS (MARYLAND), Brian GRANT (Xavier OH), and Jermaine O'NEAL ( EAU CLAIRE HS SC). It's sometimes mind bottling why the BLAZERS came up short so many times.

The best BLAZER Team that SHEED was on was the 1999-2000 Team that was led by Scottie PIPPEN and took the LAKESHOW all the way to GAME 7 on the WESTERN FINALS. Then after that SHEED joined the best FIT for him as an NBA PLAYER and orchestrated by PISTONS GM Joe DUMARS.

DUMARS brought in SHEED from ATLANTA via Portland, Richard RIP HAMILTON from the WIZARDS, Chauncey BILLUPS from being waived by the Orlando MAGIC, and Ben WALLACE from the Washington BULLETS. JOE D as the call him saw something in CHAUNCEY that everyone missed and then got SHEED to buy in and the rest was the 2003-2004 NBA World CHAMPIONS over those vaunted LAKERS and SHAQ and KOBE.

SHEED after a few more years in the D......SHEED settled on the BOSTON CELTICS for the 2009-2010 NBA Season and joined one of good friends in Kevin GARNETT. Their...the GREEN TEAM almost pulled it off as SHEED came off the BENCH and closed most games with KEV and the CELTICS made it all the way to the Championship only to get beat by the LAKESHOW and the BLACK MAMBA.

After that season SHEED was bought out and Retired in Late Summer 2010. The Man most observers called a WALKING TECHNICAL FOUL......was just a player who played with an edge. That edge came from the STREETS of SOUTH PHILLY.

In my Book....SHEED was just as SKILLED as BIG TICKET and the BIG FUNDAMENTAL. Where SHEED had a fault was sometimes deferring the Abilty to play with those skills substituted by ANGER MANEGEMENT issues. But from a Pure Basketball Point of VIEW SHEED was off the CHARTS and you will not find another player like him.

Look at this STAT.......One of Two players (the other being Robert HORRY) to have at least 100 3-Pointers Made and 100 Blocks on a season.....the SHEED was the only player to do it 4 times. Also the ONLY PLAYER with 1,000 3's and 1,000 Blocks That tells you how rare a talent SHEED really was. And then after his Sophomore Season the Coaching Legend Dean SMITH reportedly told him......it's just time to move on.....that's how much DEAN admired his ability as a 7 FOOTER.

Will SHEED go down in the BLUEDUDE'S Collection of ONE of ONE.......Maybe...he is not JORDAN, SHAQ, BIRD, CLYDE the GLYDE....heck he isn't even KG or DUNC who he played in the SAME Era with. But what he is......is PHILLY'S OWN.....and if you ask SHEED and the people in PHILLY and the LATE GREAT WILT CHAMBERLAIN who know him backwards and forwards......that's more than enough.

The 7-Footer with a FACE-UP...BACK to the BASKET......Mid-Range...and a 3 ball.....as well as one of the best POST Defenders of his time.......Rasheed ABDUL WALLACE......aka SHEED......and everyone with a GRAY SPOT in their AFRO....STAND UP.
