In 1990....it was GEORGIA TECH'S Lethal Weapon 3......ACC CHAMPIONS....the RAMBLIN' WRECK'S 1st Final Four Appearance....What a RUN it was

In 1990 the COLLEGE Basketball World had ALL EYEZ on the UNLV Runnin' REBELS and their Head Coach Jerry TARKANIAN and deservedly so. But in the EAST in the ATLANTIC COAST CONFERENCE there was a School led by one of the MOST HERALDED NY CITY KIDS in recent memory to come on the COLLEGE BASKETBALL Scene.

That City and School was ATLANTA GEORGIA.....and the School was GEORGIA TECH YELLOW JACKETS. They were coached by ACC Legends and current Head Coach at the COLLEGE of CHARLESTON Bobby CREMINS.

The JACKETS were led by 1 Senior in G Brian OLIVER Smyrna GA WILLS HS......1 F in Dennis "3D" SCOTT of Flint HIll PREP HS VA.......1 PG in Kenny ANDERSON of ARCHBISHOP MALLOY HS in Jamaica/QUEENS NY. These 3 in 1990 were known as LETHAL WEAPON 3. With a supporting cast of C Malcolm MACKEY (Chattanooga TN BRAINERD HS) and G Drew BARRY (son of Famous NBA Player and HOF Rick BARRY went to CONCORD CA De La SALLE HS)

OLIVER was a do-it-all combo G/F who could give you POINTS, Rebounds, Assists, and Steals......while SCOTT was shooting from 30 Feet and could fill it up by the minutes and KENNY was the Traffic Controller in the middle of the intersection methodically moving along.

That year GA TECH won the ACC Tournament and went into the Big DANCE as a #3 Seed. The Top 2 team that year in the WHOLE Tourney was fellow ACC School the DUKE BLUE DEVILS led by PG Bobby HURLEY (St. ANTHONY'S HS Jersey City NJ) and PF/C Christian LAETTNER (Buffalo NY ANGOLA CHRISTIAN ACADEMY) and the other Top Team was the aforementioned UNLV Runnin' REBELS led by PG Greg ANTHONY (a Portland ST UNIVERSITY Transfer) and SF Stacey "SPIDERMAN" AUGMON (Pasadena CA MUIR HS), and one LARRY "LJ" JOHNSON (Dallas TX SKYLINE HS by way of ODESSA TX JC).

But not surprisingly after TECH went through the ACC Tourney ABLAZE....that they were able to carry the momentum into the NCAA Tourney and knocking off East TENN ST BUCCANEERS and their DO EVERYTHING Mighty Mouse of a PG Keith "Mr. JENNINGS" JENNINGS.

Then the JACKETS up end an LSU Squad led by Dennis SCOTT"S Future Teammate in ORLANDO Shaquille O'NEAL (San ANTONIO TX COLE HS). The SWEET 16 the the RAMBLIN' WRECK beat SPARTY and Jud HEADCOTHE's Team led by All-American SG Steve SMITH (Detroit MI PERSHING HS).

Then in the REGIONAL Final they face Coach CLEM HASKINS' Minnesota GOPHERS Squad led by F Willie BURTON (Detroit MI ST MARTIN DE PORRES HS). You probably also thinking that who is Willie BURTON to stop LETHAL WEAPON 3.....a TOP 10 Pick in 1990 to the Miami HEAT.

Then after winning their REGIONAL FINAL....Coach CREMINS and his RAMBLIN' WRECK HOPS TEAM led by LETHAL WEAPON 3 were posed with a huge challenge in the NATIONAL SEMI-FINAL Game in Denver's Final FOUR. They would draw the almost unbeatable UNLV Runnin' REBELS who just ran through the TOURNEY Field at a record pace and the only thing that could stop the REBS were TRAVEL.

Unfortunately the TECH and LETHAL WEAPON 3 lost in that game to a BETTER UNLV Team but the memories for the RAMBLIN' WRECK Following will last forever as that was TECH'S 1st ever FINAL FOUR Appearance and they have had some great players and team come through that Top Flight Engineering School like:

That is the BASKETBALL ALUM only at Tech and they are known for it's ENGINEERING, FOOTBALL, and BASEBALL as well.

The BASKETBALL Program will once again rise to the TOP of the ACC but those who have followed TECH HOOPS for years will never forget 1990.........and KENNY, DENNIS, and BRIAN........known as LETHAL WEAPON 3.
