The Chicago Cubs lose their first two games of 2014 in Extras and finally hit the W Column for the first time inn 2014. The game was played 11 hours after the Pirates won in 16 innings early this morning in game two.
The North Siders struck in the first three innings with a run in each if the first three innings. Cubs Second Baseman Emilio Bonifacio wreaked havoc on the Buccos going 2 for 4 scoring two runs. Cubbies Hot Corner Mike Olt took Buccos Starter Wandy Rodriguez deep for a Solo "Big Fly". Cubs Starter Jason Hammel went six allowing just one run on two hits with five strikeouts and a base on balls. Rodriguez goes six and allows three runs on five hits, striking out five, walking one, and giving up that HR to Olt.
Bucs score two in the bottom half of the 6th behind Catcher Tony Sanchez single and that was all the Bucs Scoring. The Cubs slam the door in the 9th behind Cubs Captain "Save-A-Game" Pedro Strop. Buccos fall to 2-1 while the Cubbies move to 2-1.
Cubs open their 2014 Home Season vs the Phightin' Phils on Friday April 4th while the Buccos stay home and entertain the Redbirds.
