He starred at Tulsa, Oklahoma Powerhouse Booker T. Washington HS and then onto Stillwater to play for the Cowboys.

At 6-7 and 200 el bees...Richard Wayne Dumas was somewhat of a prototype at the NBA Small Forward. Long and Lean with length.....Dumas had a nice mid-range game off the bounce, excellent on the glass especially on the offensive end, could lock up the Point to the Small Forward, and had a mean back to the basket post game to boot.

Am impressive player who had more than his share of problems off the court as he was a vital part of the 1992-93 NBA's Western Conference Champs the Phoenix Suns with a lineup of KJ, Sir Charles, Cliff, D. Ainge, Thunder Dan, BIG O, Ced Ceballos, Mark West, and of course Dumas.

Dumas averaged 15ppg and 5 boards for the Suns in that memorable 1992-93 season and at times in the Playoffs showed his Offensive arsenal to the point of everyone taking note and he was the 3rd option behind KJ and Sir Charles on most nights.

I remember vividly how he went at Jordan and Pippen in the 1993 NBA Finals to the point Coach Jackson took notice and we had to force Dumas to take jump Shots instead having him post up or get to the basket off the bounce.

For every good start there probably is a not so good ending as Dumas derailed his NBA Hopes repeatedly with Substance Abuse problems. Drafted by the Suns in 1991 and only played there 1992-95 and then played everywhere but your community center recreational league......CBA, USBL, Israel, France, Poland, UK, IBA, and Bosnia among others.

WHAT IF....Dumas didn't have those type of issues reportedly the Pistons were ready to ship 2011 NBA Hall of Famer PF Dennis "the WORM" Rodman to the Valley of the Sun in exchange for Dumas....how 'bout them Washington Apples.

Once one of the fastest rising NBA players now you have to wonder when you keep going to the well when the well might turn up dry. Richard Wayne Dumas has unfortunately become just another has been instead of being great.
