OK so the oldest Son of a Legendary High School Coach is the Lead Point Guard on Arguably the Best High School Boys Team in the Country in 1989.

St. Anthony's HS in Jersey City, N.J. (A Co-Educational Roman-Catholic HS) is and has been a National Powerhouse on the Boys High School Basketball Scene for Years. They established that Tradition back in the Late 80s under 2011 Naismith Hall of Fame Inductee Bobby Hurley Sr..

Hurley has driven the Friars to Prominence and it all started with his Son, Bobby Jr., running the Point for the 1988-89 Basketball Team that Hurley himself would admit the most talented he has ever had. Yes everyone remembers the 1st Notable Player that came from St. Anthony's Notre Dame Point God David Rivers. But it was the Hurley Jr. led Friars that dominated the scene and the whole country that 1988-89 Season took note.

At the Point it was the aforementioned Bobby Hurley Jr. ( A consensus Top 10 in the US in Class of '89) , at the Shooting Guard was Terry Dehere (a consensus Top 30 Player in the US in '89), at Power Forward Jerry Walker (a consensus Top 20 Player in the US in '89), and of course then Ballyhooed #1 Ranked Freshman in the US in 1988-89 Roderick Rhodes. No one and I mean no one could play with this team because of the slick Point Guard play of Hurley, the deft-shooting touch of Terry Dehere and ability to get to the rim off the bounce and finish, the Man-Child under the Rim in Jerry Walker Controlling the Glass at Both ends, and the All-Around beyond his Years play of one Roderick Rhodes who back then could play the 1-5. The Only player better than Hurley in the US that Year at the Point was across the Hudson River in Jamaica/Queens N.Y Archbishop Malloy HS. Coached by Legendary Coach Jack Curran was the #1 Player in the US in 1988-89 Kenny Anderson.      Outside of that there was more Division 1 Basketball Coaches in the Friars gym at practice than at a Division 1 Coaches Conference. That Team dominated as they won the State Championship and it's 1st National Championship.

Hurley went onto to be a 1989 McDonald's All-American and play for Coach K and Duke. Terry Dehere and Jerry Walker stayed close to home and played for P.J. Carliesimo's Seton Hall University Pirates in South Orange, NJ. Roderick Rhodes stayed the course and stayed Hot all the way up to being the #3 Rated HS Player in 1992 behind the likes of Jason Kidd (Alemeda, California St Joseph Notre Dame HS) and Corliss Williamson (Russellville, Arkansas HS).

To this day the Friars have dominated and sent plenty of Kids to Division 1 Basketball Programs. The latest to come out of St. Anthony's is Top 5...2012 Player Kyle Anderson who will be playing at UCLA in the Fall. A 6-8 do-it-all Player who is a Point Forward if I ever saw one with a sneaky Handle and Passing game. Anderson was able to Transfer to Hurley as Central NJ Powerhouse Paterson Catholic aka PAT CAT was forced to close due to Financial Constraints.

No matter how many State Championships Bobby Hurley Sr. will continue to put up nothing will compare to the 19988-89 Run with Son Bobby Sr. running the Show.

Note: Hurley's youngest Son Danny played at Seton Hall and now both He and Bobby Jr. are Coaches at Wagner University in Staten Island, NY. Danny is the Head Coach and Bobby is Lead Assistant.
