He will be remembered as the QB who never played a home game outside the state of TEXAS. He also will be remembered as the guy who sang his favorite song at the end of MONDAY NIGHT Football when u knew who was going to lose that night.

DANDY" Joseph Don Meredith was a captivating individual with loads of charisma off the field as well as a fabulous QB in college and the pros. Meredith was an 1958-59 All-American at Southern Methodist University commonly known as SMU or when Don was QB at SMU people called it Southern Meredith University.

After his college career he Quarterbacked the Dallas Cowboys for a nine year career that spanned from 1960 -1969. He was NFL PLAYER of the Year in 1966 and went to the Pro Bowl 3 times in that span.

Then came the broadcast career after football that put Don on the NATIONAL STAGE. When I was following sports in the 1970's "OUR NATIONAL PASTIME", Baseball was the sport that was most popular. Then came ABC'S Sports MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL with HOWARD COSELL, FRANK GIFFORD, and "DANDY" DON MEREDITH. Not only did they change the way you viewed football but this group single-handily put FOOTBALL Ahead of Baseball with their telecast.

MNF had a following never seen before from any of the major sports partly due to this trio. People in the know will always refer back to that time when Football started to evolve into something special.......really. No stage was bigger than MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL and the TRIPLETS.

Meredith was inducted into the COWBOY'S Ring of Honor in 1976. He retired from ABC'S MNF a year after HOWARD COSELL left in 1984.

DON PASSED on December 5, 2010 after a suffering a Brain Hemorrhage. And for one last time As DON would put it after every MNF Game......."TURN OUT THE LIGHTS ...THE PARTY'S OVER"........The NFL has lost one of the GREAT ones on and off the field.
