It was Redbirds First Baseman Allen Craig who was the real hero even though Adron Chambers gets the walk-off single. Buccos LF Starling Marte misplayed a routine fly and it went right off his leather. This is what I was talking about in the preview of this series earlier in the day...October-Like Hardball will be on tap for this one and it was every bit of that and more.

Pirates Starter Charlie Morton was in line to get the win when he exited the game in the sixth. He allowed just two runs on seven hits with two walks and struck out three. He didn't factor into the decision as Redbirds Starter Adam Wainright didn't either. Wainright went seven innings allowing five hits and three runs on three walks as he struck out six. The Pirates Andrew McCutchen touched up Wainright in Inning One with a 2-Run Blast. Mercer then touched him up with a Solo Shot in the 2nd and that was all the Pirates scoring for the night.

The Pirates Mercer, Cutch 22, and Walker each had two hits for the Buccos. The Redbirds were led by a 4 for 6 outing by CF John Jay and a 3 for 6 outing from 2013 All-Star Second Baseman Matt Carpenter. Now the Redbirds are just two games back of the Buccos in the Central with the Red Legs crawling up the rear 3 /12 games back of the Buccos. The NL Wild Card is led by the Redbirds with the Red Legs just 11/2 games back of them.
