The Cincinnati Reds maybe trying to play good hardball as they have been in a funk since the 2013 Mid-Summers Classic. They sweep the two-piece with the A's as Reds RHP Homer Bailey out duels A's RHP and 14 game-winner Bartolo Colon.

The Reds win in a back an forth match up 6-5 as the game had significant impact on the AL West as well as what the Reds are trying to do in the NL Central as they sit in 3rd place. Bailey went 5 1/3 innings allowing five runs on nine hits issuing a free pass and striking out three. Colon for the first time since All-Star Break had his worst outing and maybe his worst of 2013 by far. After just 2 2/3 innings Colon allowed five runs on seven hits as he walked three and struck out just two. Red Legs OF Jay Bruce , who has been on fire the blast two weeks, took Colon deep in the 3rd for a 2-run shot.  A's All-Star Josh Donaldson led the A's charge going 2 for 4 with two runs scored and two ribbies.

The Athletics now are just a 1/2 game up on the 2nd place Rangers as the Rangers play tonight in Anaheim. The Red Legs are just 4.5 games back of the Redbirds and six games back of the NL Central leading Buccos. That two-trick pony in the NL Central might turn into a three-trick pony.
