The Chicago Cubs have ben playing way bette Hardball since the All-Star Break and maybe Theo's Plan is starting to work. Well whatever it is Cubs Skip Dale Sveum has been cool clam and collected as the Cubs come back from being down 4-2 at the start of the eight frame to beat the Cards in miraculous fashion 6-5.
The Cubs put a crooked three up on the board in the 8th behind a furious rally as Cubs Darwin Barney gets a game-tying two bagger. Then Cubs Back Stop Dioner Navarro pinch-hitting also get a double behind Barney to knock hi in to take a 5-4 advantage as the Redbirds Faithful were shocked. The Cubs touched up that somewhat solid Redbirds Pen as Cards Reliever Trevor Rosenthal went 2.3 innings in the eight frame and gave up three runs on two hits (both doubles) walked two and struck out two. The Redbirds got all their offense from Matt Holliday as he took Cubs Starter Villanueva for a Three-Run Bomb and then Cubs Reliever Gregg for a Solo Shot in the 9th.
The Redbirds with the loss have fallen four games back of the Pirates in the NL Central but the Red Legs are breathing down the Redbirds Back just two games behind them as the NL Wild Card Race heats up. The Cubs are getting ready for that Run in 2014 Real Talk and laugh if you want the Cubbies are coming!
Neither Starter Carlos Villanueva nor Michael Wacha factored in the decision even though Wacha was inline to get the "W".
