Too much Wichita State PG Fred Van Fleet and SG Ron Baker as the Wichita State Shockers with Shock Legends Cliff Levingston, Xavier McDaniel, and Antoine Carr all in attendance make it back to back for the Missouri Valley Conference Championship.
The Wheat Shockers make it 31 wins at the house in a row and give credit to the Panthers who at one points in the 2nd half was down 51-33 and cut that lead eight minutes later to 57-53. That's when Baker and Van Fleet along with "Hustle Man" Extraordinaire Evan Wessel took the game over making key buckets, getting big stops, and making plays for a Shock 74-60 "W"!
All five Shock Starters were in double figures led by Baker's 17 points and seven assists. Van Fleet added 13 points, seven assists and six boards as no one in their right mind wants to see the Wheat Shockers in March Madness...no one!
The Panthers balances outfit could only get Seth Tuttle off as he was the only Panther in double figures with 16 points but he also added six assists and seven boards. UNI turned it over just 10 times but the Shockers committed just three turnovers.
Wichita State captures the M.V.C. going 17-1 and moving to 27-2 overall. The Panthers get 2nd place with 16-2 conference record falling to a more than solid 27-3. Look for both to be in that Top 16 in March Madness when the field are set looking at no lower than 4 seeds as the Shock could and should garner a #2 seed maybe a #1....real talk!
