In arguably the toughest place to play in the Big 12 minus Phog Allen in Lawrence, Kansas the West Virginia Mountaineers continue to do impressive work in the Big 12 and on the campus of Morgantown U. In a nip and tuck affair with the #8 Kansas Jayhawks the Mountaineers get a game-winner with four seconds remaining to stun the Jayhawks and send Morgantown into 1999!

It was Juwan Staten's game-winning lay-up that sends KU to the "L" Column as they had a chance as Jayhawks leading scorer Perry Ellis missed a lay-up as time expired to give WVU a 62-61 win. Staten led West Virginia with a game-high 20 points as he was he only WVU Starter in double figures. Guard Jevon Carter added 13 points off the Mountaineers Bench as they held a 33-30 lead at the break.

Give Rock Chalk Jayhawk credit as they hung tough throughout and was led by Ellis' 19 points as PG Frank Mason III added 18 points. Freshman five-star WF Kelly Oubre Jr. continues his impressive play chipping in with 14 points and seven boards shooting 7 of 13 from the field.

The Mountaineers move to 8-5 in Big 12 play and 20-6 overall. The Jayhawks fall to 10-3 in Big 12 play and 21-5 overall as the Iowa State Cyclones are in 2nd place at 8-4 in the Big 12 play.

KU shot 50% from the field and nearly 55% from the arc but was killed on the glass giving up some 22 offensive boards and that is simply ridiculous.
