The Notre Dame Fighting Irish knew what was at stake heading into their tilt vs the then #12 Syracuse Orange. The game all sorts of possible distractions for N.D. from playing in the Bronx Zoo in the Boogie Down BX to Yankees-Inspired Duds the Irish were wearing. The 'Cuse had to be thinking y'all look cute but here we come from 'Cuse Nation.
After all that "Smoke" Notre Dame will head back to South Bend, Indiana not only intact for the upcoming game vs #FightOn and the USC Trojans but they are still right in that Top 4 for next week talking the College Football Playoffs.
A 36-3 drubbing of the Orange as ND led 13-0 after one and 20-0 at the half. That smothering Irish "D" coupled with the "Next in Line" talking great Irish QBs in Ian Book just overwhelmed the 'Cuse. Book through for 292 yards and 2 TDs and a pick. That Irish ground game led by Dexter Williams (13 car 74 yds TD) and Brandon Winbush (4 car 44 yds) totaled some 171 yards on 36 totes as six different Irish players ran the pigskin.
The Orange did gain 119 yards on the ground led by Moe Neal (18 car 74 yds) but did nothing in that vertical passing game. This was a far cry from that same team just month and a half ago that went to Death Valley "Orange" and had Clemson on the brink of taking its only "L" of the season. Now they will se whether or not they might have played themselves right out of a New Years Day Bowl Game and that would have been a nice chunk of change.
The Irish stays unbeaten at 11-0 as the 'Cuse falls to 8-3 and 5-2 in the ACC Atlantic two full games behind the 7-0 Clemson Tigers...remember the #4 Michigan Wolverines only "L" as game #1 of 2k18 to N.D...
