There is no doubt in any ones 162-Game Mind that Clayton Kershaw is the #1 Starter on the Bump in both leagues as we enter 2014. He is the clear cut #1 pitcher but Japan Import and Rangers Ace Yu "I Will Survive" Darvish is straight Butta...not Parkay. Darvish improved his ERA and led the Show in K's with his "I can throw one of Five Pitches at anyone in the Count" Approach. After Darvish and Kershaw who is left...the Dynamic Duo from Comerica, the "Emerald City Crusader" in Kid Felix of the M's , the Fish Fernandez, Redbirds Wainright, Bumgarner of the Gigantes, or even "S2" with a NATitude?
Top 5 "MONSTERS on the BUMP" for 2014 in order:
1. Clayton Kershaw #DodgerBlue @ClaytonKersh22
Made his debut at the ripe age of 20 with Dodger Blue from Highland Park, Texas HS and was Teammates with Lions QB Matthew Stafford on the Baseball Team. C'mon a 1.83 ERA at 16-9 as he took the Stitched One every 5th day going 33 of 33 starts and collected his 2nd NL CY Young Award (2011/2013 Winner) finishing 2nd in 2012. Then you open your Chops about his 84 Months worth $215 Large and you don't even ask MLB Hitters what's it like facing 22 in Dodger Blue. He is the Man on the Bump you would ant to start any Franchise with and if you say no...your a Dodger Hater and what's that got to do with anything 22 in Dodger Blue can do you Mother Goose Dr. Seuss!
2. Yu Darvish #Rangers @Faridyu
He is simply a monster as he teased us in his 2012 season getting acclimated to MLB Hitters as well as the Living in North Texas. His "Stuff" has "Stuff" and he can deliver that Rawlings Stitched One like The Black Mamba from the Lake Show could give it to you One on One...how do you want it? He lowered his ERA by a full point from 3.90 to 2.83. He led the Milky Way Galaxy in K's with 277 and that is Punching some folks out. He pitched 209 plus innings and gave up a poultry 146 hits....Osaka, Japan stand up and give your boy a "Round of Applause"...and Rangers Nation your next with a Standing O...Darvish is the Man on the Junior Circuit!
3. Max Scherzer #MotorCityKitties @MadMaxComerica
He out pitched his Teammate and grabbed the 2013 AL Cy Young Award and all that was highlighted by Scherzer starting for the AL in the Mid Summers Classic. He also started 12-0 setting a Franchise Record and finished 21-3 with a 2.90 ERA with 240 K's. He took the Stithced One 32 of 32 Opportunities rolling in 214 plus Innings allowing just 152 to hit Ash. Maple or Bamboo for safe hits. All Rise (including Tina Turner) for "Mad Max beyond Comerica"!
4. Justin Verlander #MotorCityKitties @JustinVerlander
Ok he went 13-12 with a 3.46 ERA and had some outing s that led people to believe is he having an off year or is he on the decline every so slightly...Stop It! Look in your Webster's Dictionary and look up "Express" Verlander is your 4th Definition. He has been clocked back at 2012 Verlander-Like Express Numbers in Spring Training and what is a little concerning is 218 plus Inning allowing 212 Hits but still managing to strikeout 217 hitters. The "Law of Averages" states he will have a bounce back year and that doesn't bode well for the AL Central at all!
5. Cliff Lee #PhightinPhils
I having a little bit of trouble putting him in the Top until I take in consideration his 2013 Numbers with on a bad team. He grabbed Rawlings Stitched One all 31 of 31 as he struck out 222 hitters with 32 Free Passes...Thirty-Two Walks are you kidding me! Yes he was 14-8 with a 2.87 ERA but that K/BB Ratio is off the charts. After Kershaw he might be the best Lefty Starter in the Show (David Price Rays) and at 35 he shows no real signs of slowing down and that might keep the Phils out of the red in 2014.
Best of the Rest...
