Both Starters talking the Pittsburgh Pirates and New York Mets in Jeff Locke and Matt Harvey pitched well enough to win this ball game as they both exited having given up a run. It came down then to both Pens and the Bucs Pen is Grade A with Captain Save-A-Game Mark Melancon on the back end and the Buccos finish a three-game sweep in Flushing Meadows...not good Mets!
With the game 1-1 after six frames and both Locke and Harvey exiting in the 6th or after the 6th the Pirates went in on the Amazins' Pen in the 7th. 'Burgh Hardball scores all four on three RBI singles and a passed ball. To make matters worse they followed up that crooked four in the 7th with another crooked number (3) in the 8th for a 8-1 lead. A-Ram dba Aramis Ramirez (4/5 3 RBI R) did the honors in the 8th with a two-run scoring double.
Mets Relievers Bobby Parnell, Eric O'Flaherty, and Carlos Torres took their lumps in the 7th and 8th as the Mets get swept three-straight by the Buccos! Mets Ace and RHP Matt Harvey dba "Dark Knight" goes six strong allowing a run on seven hits and striking out six as he gave his Boys every opportunity early to put up more than a run...and they didn't!
The Pirates at 69-46 stays ahead of the Cubbies in the NL Wild Card as the Mets fall to 63-55 still four games ahead of the struggling Nats with no NATitude left in them as we go to press....
