Notre Dame and North Carolina both took care of business yesterday beating both the Wahoos of UVA and the Blue Devils of Duke. That Business didn't stop though as both the Fighting Irish and Tar Heels were fighting for something bigger than the ACC Tourney as in the best seed possible in the Big Dance starting this Thursday.
The Irish took a 39-34 lead into the break only to see the 'Heels take charge in the second half by some timely shooting of Marcus Paige and Joe Berry II. The 'Heels started the 2nd half on a 11-2 run taking a 45-41 lead at the first T.V. timeout. That lead would balloon to eight 60-52 midway through the 2nd half behind an Isaiah Hicks dunk for U.N.C.
The Irish though put it together rather quickly going with the score 64-56 U.N.C. Notre Dame would go on a 15-2 run going up 71-66 and the 'Heels never recovered. The Fighting Irish would end the game 19-16 run and never really threatened for a 90-82 win capturing The Irish 1st ever ACC Basketball Tourney title.
Jerian Grant the son of former NBA Standout Harvey Grant led the Irish with 24 points and ten helpers. All five starters were in double figures for Notre Dame as Pat Connaugton added 20 points shooting 4 for 5 from deep with N.D. shooting 10 for 20 from deep for the game.
The 'Heels were led by Pre-Season ACC Conference P.O.Y. Marcus Paige (3rd Team All-ACC 2014-15) who had a team-high 24 points with Brice Johnson adding 20. The 'Heels couldn't get anything going late after Notre Dame hit them smack dab in the chops as I have to go way back to recall a UNC Team lacking effort in key junctures of any game.
Now the Irish has to be looking at a #4 seed possibly a #3 seed. UNC had a nice run and will be looking at a #5 seed and possibly a #4 seed depending on how things play out.
