The North Carolina Tar Heels have saved their best basketball for the best time of year and that would be March. The Tar Heels upset the #3 ranked Virginia Cavaliers on Friday night 71-67 as the Wahoos did make a late push that fell short.
Behind 'Heels Freshman Justin Jackson's 22 points including 4 for 5 from deep and the steady leadership and play making ability of lead guard Marcus Paige the 'Heels led the game from start to finish.
The Cavaliers get a game-high 25 points from All-ACC member SG Malcolm Brogdon as he got it going late. Both Anthony Gill and London Perrantes added a dozen apiece as Virginia's usually stout half court "D" let them down in this one. The Tar Heels had 17 assists on their 23 field goals and a lot of those were of the lay-up variety running off sets.
Then Tar Heels now will get the winner of the Duke/Notre Dame Game on Saturday Night as they try and move up in NCAA Tourney Seeds. The Wahoos might need some help coming in at #3 in the country as they need either Notre Dame or UNC to beat Duke in order to grab a #1 seed in a region.
