I remember like yesterday when the South Siders TV Announcers Ken "Hawk" Harrelson and Tom "Wimpy" Paciorek were talking back in the late 90s the Sox Farm System on a Telecast and the name Carlos Lee was all over it.
Well some 360 plus Bombs and 1300 plus Ribbies later the Man that manned Left Field "El Caballo" (The Big Horse in Spanish) through numerous Media Outlets has called it quits. A Powerfully built Panamanian Power-Hitter that had power to all fields and was more known for his Twig then his leather was a great hitter, power-hitter, and run producer throughout his 14-year career in the Show. His best year on the South Side was 2003 where "El Caballo" hit .291 with 31 Home runs 113 RBI's and scored 100 runs. He was passed the torch by Great White Sox Outfielder and Venezuelan Magglio "Mags" Ordonez who was the Star Outfielder before Lee arrived.
He then had his best Overall Career Year with the Brew Crew in 2006 before then moving onto the Houston Astros to be the Run Producer in the middle of that order now that Craig Biggio and Jeff Bagwell were retired. "El Caballo" spent six years playing for the 'Stros and then finally was traded to the Florida Marlins in a Salary Cap move as the Marlins let everyone go but the Mascot before the 2013 season.
Carlos "El Caballo" Lee's Career Numbers
2,099 Games .285 Avg 358 HR 1,363 RBI 1,125 Runs 469 Doubles
Excellent Numbers for a game who flew under the Radar for most of his career in the Big Leagues....and will always be remembered as a White Sox Great!
