The Cincy and 'Burgh Rivalry is deep as we have the Bengals/Steelers and Reds/Pirates and all they need now is for Cincy to get an NHL Team but they probably don't want any part of that high-octane Pens Group aka Team Happy Feet. The Pirates, talking Hardball, punch their Ticket to St. Louis as the beat the Red Legs in the NL Wild Card One-Game Playoff 6-2.
The Buccos got to Red Legs Starter Johnny Cueto early as they chased him in the 4th inning after Cueto allows four runs on seven hits and a free pass to go along with Two bombs he gave up. Both Pirates Players Marlon Byrd and Russell Martin go Solo Bombs in the 2nd frame to cap a 2-run 2nd Inning that started the Pirates Hit Parade.
Meanwhile the Red Legs didn't get the Memo to get to Buccos Ace Francisco Liriano early as he goes seven innings and gives up just one run on four hits while striking out five Reds Hitters and issuing a Free Pass. Liriano had the Red Legs Hitters off-balance all night long mix and matching his four-seam and two-seam with that Slide Piece. Then he also to right handed hitters that devastating Change and you just have to tip your Cap to him as he had the whole arsenal going.
Martin went 3 for 4 with two ruins and two RBI and it was that Pirates Lead-Off and two and three hole hitters of Starling Marte, Neil Walker, and Star CF Andrew McCutchen who combined to go 6 for 13 with three runs scored and an RBI. The Buccos now face the Redbirds in the Lou on Friday Afternoon in Game 1 off the National League Divisional Series.
Congrats BUCCOS and BUCS Nation as well as those RED LEGS from Cincy!
