Things are starting to settle down on the North Side as this team is nowhere near the 2014 team as the North Siders leave April this week with a winning record. Tonight it starter and RHP Jason Hammel's turn vs the NL Central Pirates at Wrigley and he didn't disappoint!
The Cubbies opened the scoring in the 3rd vs Buccos starter Vance Worley as Anthony Rizzo goes RBI double with two on 1st and 2nd scoring Dexter Fowler. Then it was Kris Bryant cashing in with ducks on the pond with a single scoring both Jorge Soler and Rizzo making it 3-0 Cubbies.
Rizzo singles in the 5th scoring Addison Russell after he singled and advanced on a Fowler single. That was plenty for Hammel who goes eight strong allowing just four hits and striking out seven. Hammel gets the shutout win as Worley takes the loss.
Vance goes six allowing four runs on nine hits as he walked one and struck out three. The Bucs only mustered four hits with Worley getting one of those hits. Meanwhile the Cubbies 1-4 hitters of Fowler, Soler, Rizzo, and Bryant go 8 hits and three runs scored with four RBI.
Cubbies are just a game back in the Central trailing the Redbirds who will be without Ace RHP Adam "Waino" Wainright due to an ankle and an achilles. The Bucs fall to 11-9 in 3rd in the Central...
