I will say this in the 82-game trek there will be a lot of up and downs and teams and coached and organizations must take an even keel approach. It's not that the Warriors had a 16-game win streak heading into this one as they will be measured on how they respond.
The Memphis Grizzlies always in Grit and Grind Mode now have some offensive firepower to go with that sauce and and they look to be a real threat in the NBA southwest. The Grizz holds off a furious rally from the start of the 4th to midway through the 4th and beats the Warriors 105-98.
That Warriors rally was a 14-2 run when the score was 86-72 Grizz with just under eleven minutes to go only to see the Warriors cut that to 88-86 with just under seven minutes to go. Memphis never gave up the lead and with the score 90-88 Grizz it was a Tayshaun Prince Money Ball with 4:40 remaining that gave the Grizz a 93-88 cushion.
Memphis would go onto close on a 12-10 run beating G.S.W. 105-98. The Grizz held the Warriors under 30% from the Arc and almost 41% from the field. It was simply the Grizz getting "Stops" on the defensive need when they needed it. The Warriors get a taste of what the L.A. Clippers have been feeling like playing Grit and Grind the last few seasons in winning time...it's not easy!
Gasol led the Grizz with 24 points and seven boards as G.S.W. had no answer for him with Andrew Bogut out. They also get 17 points apiece from Mike Conley Jr. and Z-Bo who also grabbed ten boards.
The Warriors get a team-high 22 points from Klay Thompson and 19 points, seven boards, and six helpers from Steph but just 1 for 10 from the arc. If you can somehow limit the Warriors from killing you from the Arc you have a chance with them.
Memphis moves to 20-4 while he Warriors fall to 21-3 snapping a 16-game win streak...
