The Bulls escaped a game that if they had play an elite team in the west See Red most likely would have taken a Christmas Night loss. This though was the 9-19 Lakers coming in with no Kobe Bryant resting as the Lakers played the Bulls tough anyway after the fact.
In a key stretch in the 2nd the Bulls led the Lakers 52-36 with just over two minutes to go. The Lakers with just under ten minutes to go in the 3rd after the break had the lead cut to two points 60-58 going on a 22-8 run in that span. It was just too much Pau Gasol, D-Rose, and Jimmy Butler in the end.
The Bulls closed that 3rd frame leading 83-77 and never looking back in the 4th pushing that lead to 15 with two minutes remaining at 106-91. The Bulls close on a 7-2 run from there as Gasol led with 23 points and thirteen boards. Butler added 21 points and six boards with D-Rose 20 points.
The Bulls Bench Mob gets a huge lift from Taj Gibson as he adds 9 points and seven boards to go with Nikola Mirotic and Aaron Brooks 13 points apiece.
The Lakers were led by Wes Johnson's 19 points, Ed Davis' 13 points and fourteen boards, and Jordan Hill's 16 points and six boards. No Kobe as he gets a DND Coach's Decision.
