The Top Five Candidates for the 2012-13 "Fight for Dr. Hart" Trophy is sponsored by...Who are the best hockey players in the Galaxy?....Canadians, Russians, Scandinavians, Americans, or Eastern Europeans...who?
The 2012-13 "Fight for Dr. Hart" Nominees in Order....
1. Center Jonathan Toews #BlackHawks #FrozenTalkHawks...the best Players on the Best team in Ice Games for 2012-13 as he was a +27 for the season. He also scored 21 goals and had 25 helpers as Coach "Q" uses him in all situations including Penalty Killing and Power Plays. It should be Toews or Crosby by the narrowest of margins.
2. Center Sidney Crosby #Pens...taking nothing away from "Sid the Kid" but his fellow Canadian National Team Teammate Toews might beat him by the slimmest of margins. One because Sid played 36 of 48 games and had an amazing 15 goals on 41 helpers before the Regular Season-Ending Injury. He also was +26 and had he stayed healthy it would have been his Trophy walking away.
3. Left Winger Alex Ovechkin #Caps...he was looking like chopped squid their at the beginning and then he caught fire and there was not a hint of Ice to slow him down. He ended the 2012-13 season with a league leading 32 goals and also had 24 helpers and 56 points overall. His +/- was only +2 but he made a run for it as he should be in the Top Five Vote-Getters...
4. Center Martin St. Louis #Lightning...laugh if you want to as this Former 2003-04 Hart Trophy Winner carried the Lightning with Teammate in 23 year old Steven Stamkos (29 goals 28 assists 57 points). He scored 17 goals but helped all of Hillsborough County Florida in scoring with some 43 helpers. St. Louis has already won the "Fight for Art"....the Art Ross trophy for the Ice Games Top Point-Getter. St. Louis and Stamkos was the number one duo on Ice for Points with a combined 117 points.
5. Center John Tavares #Islanders...at age 22 and the 2009 1st Overall Pick J.T. put on a show in 2012-13 as he netted 47 points with 28 goals and 19 helpers. The only thing that hurts him is he had a -2 for the Season and that is not good by any stretch. The Future of Hockey is going through this Canadian as the Barclays and Islanders Nation can't wait.
