There will be no other Prolific Trio of Wide Receivers in the SEC like the Ole' Ball Coach Steve Spurrier had in the Mid 90s with Signal Caller Danny Wuerffel.
Under Spurrier's Passing Game the Florida gators became virtually unstoppable and when these Three Wide Outs from Florida, Georgia, and Louisiana came together it was Lightning in a Bottle.
Louisiana WR Ike Hilliard, Florida WR Reidel Anthony, and Georgia WR Jacquez Green. This was an interesting Mix for one Hilliard and Green crossed SEC State Lines to join Spurrier and in the SEC that doesn't go over well. They all brought a different mix to the Table with the same results on most occasions...Pay Dirt.
Ike Hilliard (#7 Pick NY Football Giants in '97) was the Route Runner of Sorts and Physical at the point of Attack and could make all the catches and loved Contact. He reminded me of Pahokee HS Florida WR Anquan Bolden (current Raven WR and FSU 'Noles Alum). Physical and couldn't Bump and Run Him or he was fast enough to get by you. He was All-SEC and 1st Team All-American and the Best of the Three on Sunday and arguably in Gainesville as well.
Reidel Anthony (#16 Pick TB Buccaneers in '97) was the Showman of the Trio. Flash and Dash, and all his plays were of some kind of Splash. When the gators went Deep they would often call Reidel's Number and he would come through via Pay Dirt forget the 1st Down marker. Reminded me of Current Bengals and Between the Hedges All-American WR AJ Green minus the Physical Nature of Green. Excellent Athlete and could run that Corner Route to the Pylon as good as anyone in the Country during his time at the Swamp. Not that good of Sunday Career as he was reluctant to go across the Middle and Absorb Contact. Not being Physical hurt him on Sunday.
Jacquez Green (#34 Pick TB Buccaneers in '98) was the most dangerous of the Trio because of his Value as a Runner, WR, and in the Kicking Game. Spurrier would often lineup Quezzie (as the Ole' Ball Coach would call him) in the Backfield, Slot, or put him in Motion to confuse the Defense. Green was a Monster in Space and Spurrier would try to put a mis match on him with a Safety or Linebacker and Green won that Battle 99% of the time. Quezzie had a little PERCYland Harvin (Former Gator All-American and now Purple People WR/KR/PR) but not as Physical as PERCYland. He flopped on the Sunday Level with is inability to have a definite position. He was definitely the Specialty Player out of the Bunch and needed a Specific Offensive System for hi unique Skill set.
They all were All-Americans and All-SEC under the Ole' Ball Coach. Reidel Anthony came from the Bell Glades /Pahokee Area that has produced some of the best Florida and Sunday has ever seen. Notable WR's out of that area that are Currently playing Sundays Belle Glades' Santonio Holmes of High Street Columbus, Ohio Fame...Home of the Buckeyes and the JETS and the aforementioned Anquan Boldin of Pahokee and Doak Campbell Stadium Fame...Home of the 'Noles and the Ravens.
The Best of the Best at the University of Florida under the Ole' Ball Coach and ever at the Swamp....Ike, Reidel, and Quezzie.
