If you would have told me that Chicago Cubs Ace RHP Jake Arrieta would give up four runs through five and some change I would have told you the Redbirds won game #3. Then if you said right behind that that Redbirds Ace RHP Michael Wacha would give up four runs through four frames and some change I would have still told you the Redbirds would win. Reason being the Redbirds Pen is stronger than the Cubbies but the North Siders dba "Maddon Ball" showed me why this is an entirely different bunch playing home games on Addison and Clark in Second City!
Cubs back stop Kyle Schwarber swinging the hottest bat this side of the Mississippi started the scoring with a solo Blast in the 2nd making it 1-0 Cubbies. That lead would have been enough for Arrieta who has been lights out since June but not on this night.
The Redbirds score two in the 4th highlighted by Johnny Peralta two-bagger leading 2-1. That lead held up not even a half a frame as Starlin Castro took Wacha deep in the bottom half of the 4th for a 2-2 tie.
In the 5th was the turning points as Anthony Rizzo and Kris Bryant were a combined 0 for 21 heading into this series with an AB between them when they both went deep. Bryant's was a two-run blast ending Wacha's Day and Rizzo's solo "Tater" was off Redbirds middle man Kevin Siegrist giving the Cubbies a 5-2 lead.
Jason Heyward made things interesting in their half of the 6th as he took Arrieta deep for a two-run blast ending Jake's night for a Cubs 5-4 lead. The Redbirds then went with Adam Wainright who can't be sharp as Jorge Soler told us he wasn't talking "Waino" deep for a two-run shot and a 7-4 Cubs lead. Dexter Fowler added some much-needed insurance as he goes solo Bomb in the 8th for a 8-4 lead.
The Cubs win 8-6 but not before Stephen Piscotty took Hector Rondon deep for a two-run blast in the top half of the 9th as the North Siders are one win away from going to the NLCS....Let's Go!
