The Chicago Cubs needed a lift after newly-acquired Reliever Fernando Rodney (who was Captain Save-A-Game for the Joe Maddon led Tampa Bay Rays for a few seasons) gave up the go-ahead HR in the 7th to Reds Eugenio Suarez who broke up a 3-3 tie. Rodney's shortcomings for the M's led to him landing with the "North Siders" as all was not lost on this night if your a Maddon Head!
Then in the bottom half of that same frame off Red Stockings reliever Burke Badenhop it was one of two of the Cubbies Rookies doing what they do...yes time for Donuts! With Dexter Fowler on 1st the tying run and two outs and a 3-2 count Badenhop delivers what looked to be a "Get Me Over" Splitter and Kyle Schwarber tags it to center field for the two-run Big Fly and a Cubs 5-4 lead and just like that the 2K15 Bleacher Bums went Zombies!
Rodney lucky for him makes his "Maddon Ball" day view with a "W" as Pedro Strop and Cubbies Captain Save-A-Game Hector Rondon closes out Cincy in the 8th and 9th. The Cubbies also gain a game on the Pirates losers to the "Piwowarzy" of Milwaukee.
Chicago moves to 75-56 and now watches that Gigantes/Dodgers outcome to see of they can gain a game on the Giants 3rd in the NL Wild Card! Not to be outdone Cubs Rook hot corner Kris Bryant went 3 for 4 with two RBI.
Neither starter Anthony Desclafani (Red Stockings) and Dan Haren (North Siders) figured into the decision...
