Chicago Cubs starter Jason Hammel was cruising and like his teammate yesterday Dan Haren had Redbird Hitters baffled through six. The Cubs Offense lit up Redbirds Ace RHP Michael Wacha as they scores six runs in the first two frames. Those frames were powered by an Anthony Rizzo two-run "Tater" in the 1st and a Starlin Castro three-run Bomb in the 2nd. Castro has sure got the message from Skip Joe Maddon as his bat has come full circle since not playing everyday in the month of August!
Hammel had the Redbirds scoreless until the 7th when Randalk Grichuk took Hammel deep for a two-run HR making it 8-2 Cubbies. Then the Redbirds scored scored three more runs of reliever Pedro Strop in the same frame as Hammel's Night was done in the 7th with the score 8-5 Cubbies.
That lead would hold up for "Maddon Ball" as they reach 80 wins (4th Team in MLB with 80 Wins) moving to 80-57. The Redbirds losers of five of their last six falls to 87-51 as Wacha falls to 15-5. Hammel moves to 8-6 and don't look now but Chicago is 6.5 games back of St. Louis with Pittsburgh just 4.5 games back...as we get an Photo Finish in the NL Central for 2K15 perhaps!
