The Redbirds couldn't afford to lose the first three of a four-piece with the Red Legs and leave Town with three teams within a game of each other. The Red Legs were trying to take the Redbirds to a Special Place and after nearly playing Two and starting the game on Hump Day with the game ending right before Midnight Eastern Time...the Redbirds win. They say it's not that you played Extras ...it's if you won the game in Extras that makes you feel a whole lot better.

Inside the Number on the Redbirds 5 Red Legs 4 a Final in 16 Innings:

Pitchers Used
STL 9
CIN 7

Hits
STL 12
CIN 10

STL 1B Matt Adams (filling in for All-Star Allen Craig) belted Two Solo HRs including the game-winner in the 16th...

CIN 2B Brandon Phillips only Red Legs Player to Homer and it was a Solo Job...

*Teams only had a combined 5 X-Base Hits and three of those were Bombs...

Redbirds OF Jon Jay and Red Legs 1B Joey Votto were the only two players with a Hat Trick for Strikeouts at the Dish (3 each)

Ironically enough both teams scored in the 14th frame and it looked like they were going to at least twenty frames if not more....

The Redbirds with the huge win send the Red Legs back to three back of the NL Central lead and the Redbirds pick up a game on the Buccos as they lost to the Beer Makers 9-3. Cards just a game back with one to play in Cincy on "Get Away" Day Thursday.

360 Degrees...Redbirds 2B Matt Carpenter only player in the game with Three Hits.....and he smacked his 46th Double a Cardinals Club Record
