The Oakland Athletics arrived at Fenway coming off a Monday through Hump Day Sweeping of the AL West rival Texas Rangers. The Red Sox just hanging around through April are in the middle of the pack in the AL East could test themselves against arguably the best on the Junior Circuit in 2014 thus far.
Well after the Red Sox beat the A's Friday Night 7-1 behind Clay Buchholz the Carmines get a Grade-A Jon Lester as he was all of that in the Bump vs the Swignin' A's dba as the Missing A's in this one. Lester mowed down 15 A's on Strikes via Swigning or Looking and the Carmines notched their 2nd straight "W" versus the A's. Lester went eight strong innings allowing one hit walking just two A's Hitters and those fifteen K's. That masterful performance was backed up by Jonny Gomes 1st inning "Grand Slam" off A's Starter Tommy Milone (4 IP 6 H 6 R 4 BB 5 SO 3 HR). That was all the run support Lester would need. Both Big Papi and David Ross each took Milone for Solo Shots in the 3rd and 4th as the Carmines played "Touch'em All" Saturday!
The A;s did get to Chris Cuapano of the Sox Bullpen as he gave up three hits and three runs all in the top half of the 9th. Japanese and Carmines Closer Koji Uehara came in to get his 7th save. Carmines go for the Sweep on "Get Away Day" Sunday April 4th with the A's throwing Sonny Gray (4-1) vs John Lackey (4-2).
