The Washington Nationals Doug Fister and the Arizona Diamondbacks Brandon McCarthy each had great days on the bump. Fister allowed just one run in seven innings and five hits and that run came in the 4th inning off the Bat of Aaron Hill a Solo Job to make it 1-0 D-Backs. McCarthy was cruising through six scoreless innings and was touched up in the 7th by a Solo Bomb by Nats Jayson Werth to make it 1-1. McCarthy up to that point had allowed one his a Single by Ian Desmond in the 5th inning.
In the top half of the 9th with the score tied 1-1 the Nats run off a two-bagger and three singles to put a crooked four up as they go onto win 5-1. Again it was Desmond with a two-run single that did the damage in the 9th that started that rally. D-Backs Tyler Ziegler went 1/3 of an inning allowing three hits and four runs. Tyler Clippard gets the "W" for the Nats as Fister and McCarthy both get No Decisions.
Nats move to 21-19 and that is good for 2nd in the NL East behind Braves Country. The D-Backs fall to 16-27 which is the basement in the NL West with the San Francisco Giants leading at 25-15.
