This is another Slam Dunk and you see the trend evolving and why not as former Chicago, Illinois Vocational H.S. Star and 1991 Big Mac and Fab Five Star Juwan Howard reportedly agrees to become the next to lead the University of Michigan Wolverines Basketball Program. Howard will get five years with the Wolverines as he is coming off of a long tenure under the Miami Heat Basketball Club and their lead man Erik Spoelstra!
Howard bring more than credibility as he joins the likes of Penny Hardaway (Memphis Tigers) and Jerry Stackhouse (Vanderbilt) as high-profile former College and NBA Stars to lead College Squads and this trend is all about who they are as Men but more importantly the impact they will have on the recruiting trail and developing young man with all that experience from the scholastic ranks through the pros!
It's like yesterday when I saw Howard and his CVS Cavs Teammate Michael Lampley (Talented in his own right) dominating in the Chicago Public League Red South. Howard a consensus Top 5 Nationally as Chris Webber (Birmingham, MI Country Day School) was the only Fab Five Alum ahead of Howard in '91.
Howard was the first to commit to the Wolverines as Top 15 Nationally Jimmy King (Plano, TX East H.S.) was the fist to follow Howard as Jalen Rose (Detroit, MI Southwestern H.S.) was contemplating whether he should head to Syracuse and Jim Boehiem. Webber had both Duke and Michigan State on his mind as both King and Howard persuaded both to head to Ann Arbor and then came Ray Jackson (Consensus Top 60 Austin, TX Lyndon B, Johnson H.S.) as the fifth and final member as then Michigan lead man Steve Fisher pulled it off.
As for Howard one of the more intriguing scenarios moving forward is what coaches round out his coaching staff as he has never been a head coach but that didn't hurt Penny in Memphis as he hired and leaned on former NBA lead man Sam Mitchell. I expect Howard to gran current Miami Heat Assistant and Notre Dame Standout Chris Quinn to help him lead the charge. Also lookout for Jimmy King who resides in the "D" 313 with various business projects going on!
Howard has already lost top incoming recruit Jalen Wilson (Denton, TX Guyer H.S.) but maybe he can track him down to have him recommit as Howard is getting a late start but lookout for that Class of 2020 heading to Ann Arbor it should be dynamite!
Congrats Juwan Howard who had a somewhat impressive interview with the Los Angeles Lakers and his former Teammate now Lakers Exec Rob Pelinka...
